IDW Dark is releasing comic books for Smile and A Quiet Place.

Two horror franchises from Paramount are poised to venture into comic books in the upcoming year, as IDW Publishing reveals its plans to launch new titles for Smile and A Quiet Place under its horror-centered IDW Dark imprint.

Kicking off in February is Smile: For the Camera, crafted by writer Hannah Rose May (The Exorcism at 1600 Penn) and artist Mariana Puglia (Red Sonja), followed by A Quiet Place: Storm Warning, featuring Phil Hester (Swamp Thing) and Ryan Kelly (Stranger Things); further details can be found here.

Smile: For the Camera transports readers back to 2005, chronicling a group of international models as they begin Fashion Month in New York. Eager to smile for the camera, they soon find themselves plagued by paranoia as the enigmatic Smile Entity starts haunting them.

“As a devoted fan of Smile, I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to expand Parker Finn’s chilling universe into comics,” expressed writer Hannah Rose May. “Writing this has been an exhilarating experience, and I’m eager for fans to encounter the nightmare in a fresh format. Much like how Smile 2 explored the world of a contemporary pop star, our series takes a step back to the early 2000s and immerses the Entity into the cutthroat realm of the modeling industry. Miriana’s vibrant artwork combined with Dearbhla’s striking colors has crafted a visual language that is both alluring and ominous. I’m excited to collaborate with this outstanding team assembled by Paramount, IDW, and editor Heather Antos. IDW Dark is paving the way for a new chapter in horror comics, and they’re just getting underway!”

Mariana Puglia added, “It’s truly a pleasure – and an incredible honor for me – to work on this project. Hannah’s ability to encapsulate the early 2000s fashion scene is one-of-a-kind. I adore the scenes depicting the frantic lives of those in the industry, the behind-the-scenes frenzy of a fashion show, and the relentless pressure to maintain top aesthetics (even while being afflicted by the Entity). Imagining each scene has been a delight, particularly the suspense and fear of turning each page!”

As terrifying creatures wreak havoc across the globe, slaughtering anything that creates noise, a small island town in the Midwest struggles to survive in silence, with ferocious and seemingly unstoppable extraterrestrial threats lurking around them.

“In terms of franchises, A Quiet Place is distinctive for two reasons. Each film delivers an unyielding stream of suspenseful action, coupled with a genuinely heartfelt drama at its core. Additionally, it employs an innovative method of visual storytelling without dialogue,” remarked writer Phil Hester. “With A Quiet Place: Storm Warning, I believe Ryan Kelly and I have successfully captured those qualities, albeit in an entirely different format. As midwesterners residing along the Mississippi, the small, creature-plagued island town of Pearl, Iowa in this series feels very familiar to us. Moreover, as creators, the challenge of largely silent storytelling has pushed us to enhance our skills in novel and exciting ways, resulting in a horror series unlike any others on the market. Just be sure to turn those pages quietly; something unwanted might be listening.”

The Walking Dead makes its way into World of Tanks Blitz. The Walking Dead makes its way into World of Tanks Blitz. This October, the ultimate battle for survival in World of Tanks Blitz features the legendary horror of zombies from AMC’s iconic television series The Walking Dead, merging the two worlds. BMW has introduced the 325iS and 333i Homage Editions in South Africa, celebrating the heritage of these classic models with some nostalgic features, including unique wheels, graphics, and upholstery.

Both editions pay tribute to the original models, using the M240i and M2 as their bases. They will be available through a charity auction, with only 33 units of each model being produced, exclusively for the South African market.

The 325iS Homage, built on the M240i xDrive, includes dual rear spoilers and 20-inch M Performance wheels designed with a retro flair. Additional features of the coupe consist of a front splitter and contrasting black door handles reminiscent of the original design, alongside the M Sport Pro package and an M Performance exhaust.

Inside, drivers will find M Sport seats adorned with contrast stitching and an armrest covered in Überkaro tartan upholstery, the same design as seen in various sporty E30 models like the 318iS, 320iS, and the 325iS. A commemorative plaque adds to the special features, inscribed with “Born for the track” and “Specially crafted for South Africa.”

The powertrain is provided by a familiar 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine generating 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque, allowing the coupe to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 4.3 seconds.

The 333i Homage, built upon the M2, presents a more aggressive design with retro-inspired graphics and 20-inch wheels from Alpina, as well as a carbon fiber splitter and spoiler, complemented by a four-tailpipe M Performance exhaust. Buyers can select from five color options: Alpine White, Sapphire Black, Brooklyn Grey, Zandvoort Blue, and Fire Red.

The interior mirrors that of the 325iS Homage with a similar armrest and a slightly different plaque, but the 333i goes further with the addition of carbon fiber bucket seats. It features a more powerful 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine, producing 473 hp (353 kW / 480 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque, enabling the rear-wheel-drive sports car to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in just four seconds.

These vehicles commemorate the original 325iS and 333i, which are described as “products of BMW South Africa’s unique autonomy during the 1980s and 1990s, a time when local engineers worked with a near skunkworks-like approach.” The 325iS was designed to meet Group N racing standards, while the 333i was developed to fill the void left by the absence of the first-generation M3 in South Africa.

The cars will be auctioned off, with interested buyers able to register now. Proceeds will go to one of five chosen charities selected by the bidders. Buyers will also agree not to sell or transfer the vehicle for a minimum of one year. The auction begins on October 21, starting bids are set at R1,435,000 ($83,413) for the 325iS Homage and R1,960,000 ($113,930) for the 333i Homage. While this is the first vehicle to showcase the Capricorn name, the company's expertise in performance engineering is extensive. Their lightweight materials have demonstrated reliability in some of the fiercest motorsport environments, supporting teams like Porsche in LMP1, Peugeot Sport in Le Mans and Dakar, Mercedes, Lotus, and Caterham in Formula 1, and Volkswagen in WRC.

Capricorn's Founder and CEO Robertino Wild shares a close friendship with Zagato President Andrea Michele Zagato, leading to a project that merges “German engineering precision with Italian design elegance.” The objective was to create a road-legal hypercar that is “designed to be driven, experienced, and remembered.”

Function Meets Tradition

The design incorporates hallmark Zagato features such as the double-bubble roof, almond-shaped headlights, and sculpted fenders. However, its side profile also hints at influences from the Ford GT, while the wraparound glass and single wiper evoke a Koenigsegg silhouette, complemented by slim LED taillights reminiscent of Rimac's minimalism.

Instead of depending on active aerodynamic features, the 01 Zagato employs precisely shaped intakes and outlets to generate consistent downforce. The aim was to make the vehicle approachable for skilled enthusiasts while remaining accessible for drivers lacking racing experience.

A Timeless Interior

Capricorn designed the cabin, featuring a cluster of analog instruments situated behind a round steering wheel, with the central rev counter being the focal point. There are no infotainment screens to modernize the layout, just a small display for the rearview camera that retracts when not in use.

This recalls a recent discussion about the revival of mechanical watches as luxury symbols after the Quartz Crisis, suggesting a similar trend is occurring with automotive displays. As digital screens proliferate in contemporary dashboards, there seems to be a renewed interest in traditional analog dials for premium vehicles.

The switches are crafted from solid titanium and aluminum, combined with extensive use of exposed carbon fiber, Alcantara, and Connolly leather. The fixed seats provide adjustable cushioning, while the steering column, pedal box, and manual gear lever can all be adjusted for the ideal driving position.

According to Capricorn, the interior can accommodate a variety of body types and includes a 110-liter front trunk for storage.

Analog Driving Experience

Underneath the carbon exterior lies an LMP1-style monocoque chassis also constructed from carbon fiber, along with carbon fiber front and rear subframes. The suspension features double wishbones and pushrod Bilstein dampers with three selectable driving modes (Comfort, Sport, and Track) and a four-wheel lift system.

Ford Power

This brings us to the powertrain, which defies the trend towards electrification. The mid-mounted supercharged 5.2-liter V8 is based on a Ford engine, further developed by Capricorn with custom components and tuning.

The outcome is an impressive engine that produces over 888 hp (662 kW / 900 PS) and 1,000 Nm (737.6 lb-ft) of torque, propelling a car that weighs less than 1,200 kg (2,646 lbs) dry, comparable to a high-end Miata RF with a retractable hardtop.
