4K Ultra HD Review – Nobody 2 (2025)
Nobody 2, 2025.
Directed by Timo Tjahjanto.
Starring Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, RZA, Colin Salmon, Christopher Lloyd, John Ortiz, Colin Hanks, and Sharon Stone.
SYNOPSIS:
Bob Odenkirk continues to showcase his action hero persona in Nobody 2, where Hutch Mansell and his family embark on a vacation, only to encounter far more excitement than they anticipated. The original cast reunites, adding Colin Hanks as a dubious sheriff, John Ortiz as a local criminal, and Sharon Stone as a ruthless (literally) crime lord who dominates the scenes.
In my view, when contrasting the two franchises, Nobody undeniably surpasses John Wick. (A slight revision of that statement could shift the perspective completely.) Personally, I find it significantly more entertaining to watch Bob Odenkirk portray a beleaguered suburban father capable of lethal force if necessary, rather than witnessing Keanu Reeves as a detached hitman drawn back into action.
Nobody was an enjoyable thrill ride upon its release in 2021. Odenkirk took on the role of Hutch Mansell, a suburban dad with two children (portrayed by Gage Munroe and Paisley Cadorath) and a wife (Connie Nielsen), grappling with relatable issues for a man in his position: missing trash collection, moody teenagers, and a spouse who desires as much attention from him as he gives to other matters.
The twist revealed that Hutch was a former hitman pulled back into his past lifestyle, a skillset learned from his father, retired FBI agent David (Christopher Lloyd), alongside his adopted brother Harry (RZA). Following the events of the previous film, Hutch finds himself reimmersed in that life due to a debt owed to a crime boss, leading him to undertake assignments that grow increasingly complicated.
These assignments lead him to miss his son’s sports events, causing mounting frustration for his wife, Becca. In response, he announces a family vacation to reconnect with everyone, inviting his father along and planning to stay at the spot he frequented as a child during his only vacation.
It's easy to predict the outcome: the vacation destination turns out to be a hotspot for criminal activity, facilitated by a unscrupulous sheriff (Colin Hanks) and the son of the former amusement park owner, portrayed by John Ortiz. Naturally, Hutch finds himself inadvertently embroiled in the local affairs, which catch the attention of crime lord Lendina (Sharon Stone), who profits from the area's illegal operations.
The plot takes several engaging twists along the way, and Odenkirk, Lloyd, and RZA are once again a delight to watch as they address the challenges in their unique style. This time, Ortiz’s character allies with them, culminating in a conclusion that genuinely piques my interest in the next chapter for this extended family.
Nobody 2 experienced a modest box office performance, so the decision regarding a third installment remains uncertain, but in the meantime, this 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray package should satisfy fans. It also includes a code for a digital copy, and there’s no need to elaborate on the visual and audio quality—modern films usually transition to 4K seamlessly, barring any significant production errors.
As for bonus features, they are somewhat limited. There are just under seven minutes of deleted scenes that could have arguably been included in the film, considering its brisk 89-minute runtime, alongside two featurettes.
The featurettes, Nobody 2: The Fight Continues and Nobody Does Stunts Like Us, run for 11 and 12 minutes, respectively, and provide fans with a solid overview of the film's making. They’re typical of many current home video releases, and it seems any comprehensive documentary will have to wait until the franchise produces a few more installments (which I sincerely hope it does).
