Armie Hammer not only makes his return in the new trailer for Frontier Crucible, but he also takes on a notable role as a disgruntled outlaw who tears off the leg of a tarantula for "trying to escape."

Directed by Travis Mills, the film features Myles Clohessy, Mary Stickley, Ryan Masson, William H. Macy, and Thomas Jane alongside Hammer, who is credited second. Frontier Crucible is produced by Dallas Sonnier, known for his work on the gritty Western Bone Tomahawk.

From Well Go USA Entertainment, the film centers on a wagon carrying essential medical supplies that comes under attack by Apaches. The only person capable of safely leading it to its destination is Merrick Beckford, who must recruit the aid of a trio of menacing outlaws. The situation escalates dramatically when they inadvertently kill an Apache scout.

This marks Hammer's most significant role since his career took a downturn following revelations about his participation in cannibal-themed role play and facing sexual assault allegations that did not result in criminal charges.

In a podcast interview from January, he stated that he was quietly working on his career comeback, which included Frontier Crucible, and mentioned that the general sentiment in Hollywood about him is, “Man, that guy got f—ed.”

Hammer experienced a loss of roles and representation at his agency, WME, after private messages attributed to him surfaced online in early 2021. These messages discussed cannibalism, blood drinking, enslavement, and rape. Hammer has argued that these were part of consensual fantasy role play taken out of context.

He once had a successful career with roles in The Social Network and The Lone Ranger, but his world unraveled as police looked into sexual assault claims made by an ex-partner who referred to herself as Effie.

In 2023, prosecutors in Los Angeles County announced they would not pursue charges against Hammer, citing the "complexity of the relationship" between him and the woman involved.

During an appearance on Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky’s Your Mom’s House Podcast released on New Year’s Day, Hammer shared that he would sometimes send graphic, humorous messages to sexual partners, often laughing while doing so.

He acknowledged that his understanding of consent has evolved since then and admitted some partners may have felt that they were in a more serious relationship than he intended, which could have left them feeling hurt by their experiences with him.

“The worm is turning. And it takes time. It’s slow,” Hammer remarked on the podcast. “But generally now the conversation when my name comes up with people in the industry is, ‘Man, that guy got f—ed.’ And that feels really good. It’s really encouraging.”
