Mother Mary Trailer: David Lowery Comes Back with a Pop Melodrama Featuring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel

      Reuniting with A24 after his films A Ghost Story and The Green Knight, writer-director David Lowery will debut Mother Mary next year, an epic pop melodrama featuring Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, Jessica Brown Findlay, Sian Clifford, and FKA Twigs. The film includes original music from Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and FKA Twigs, with A24 recently releasing the first trailer ahead of its April 26 release.

      “I wrote the first 20 pages while filming Peter Pan and Wendy, and the idea has been developing ever since,” Lowery shared last year. “That project was monumental—it was one of the best shoots of my life and also one of the toughest edits I've experienced, leading to a lot of reflection. Following that, I thought I would focus on something simple. I wanted to create a film featuring just two actors in a room sharing a deep conversation—a truly gentle filmmaking process. But then I wondered, ‘What if one of them is a pop star? And what if we started at a stadium?’ This expanded the scope, ultimately making it the most challenging project I've ever undertaken.” He further stated, “I believe this movie will evoke strong emotions in many different ways. It resonates deeply with my true self, yet it continues to surprise me in unexpected ways.”
