StudioCanal has unveiled a trailer and poster for James McAvoy’s debut as a director, California Schemin’. The film, adapted from Gavin Bain’s autobiography Straight Outta Scotland, narrates the tale of Gavin and Billy, two young musicians from Dundee, Scotland, who deceived the music industry into believing they were a California rap duo in order to secure a record deal.
The cast features Séamus McLean Ross (Outlander: Blood of My Blood), Samuel Bottomley (Anemone), Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean), Rebekah Murrell (One Day), and McAvoy himself. You can watch the trailer below.
Inspired by a remarkable true story, CALIFORNIA SCHEMIN’ follows two Scottish MCs who concoct a bold plan to realize their dream of landing a record deal by impersonating hip hop artists from California. As fame approaches and their fabrications accumulate, their friendship faces significant challenges.
California Schemin’ is set to hit theaters on April 10th.
