Justin Lin is set to helm the movie adaptation of the Helldivers video game.
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are gearing up for their next video game adaptation with the co-op shooter Helldivers, enlisting Justin Lin, known for the Fast & Furious franchise, to bring the acclaimed title to the big screen.
As reported by THR, Lin presented his vision for Helldivers by highlighting his status as a non-gamer, suggesting that his focus will be on character development and storytelling. He will collaborate on the project with Gary Dauberman (Annabelle), who recently directed another video game adaptation, Until Dawn, for Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.
The story is set in a dystopian future, following elite soldiers called Helldivers as they protect Super Earth from various alien threats, including Bugs, the Automatons, and the Illuminate.
Launched to rave reviews in 2015, the game has already released a sequel that sold 12 million units within its first four months. Renowned for its enjoyable gameplay, humorous moments, and satirical take on the genre, there's likely a wealth of material for Lin and Dauberman to explore.
