Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will debut its prologue in IMAX theaters this weekend.
Anticipation runs high for Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic, The Odyssey, which is inspired by the Greek myth of Odysseus and his extensive journey home. With the film slated for release next summer, Universal and IMAX have announced that a six-minute prologue will debut on IMAX screens this weekend.
This prologue will be shown alongside the 70mm screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another, as both films return to IMAX theaters for a limited time engagement. After the prologue, the official trailer will be featured with Avatar: Fire and Ash upon its debut on December 19th.
Notably, The Odyssey is the first film to be completely shot using IMAX cameras. Nolan has incorporated IMAX into his films since 2008’s The Dark Knight, progressively utilizing more of it and expanding the format's capabilities with each project. His acclaimed film Oppenheimer was particularly successful on IMAX screens, prompting him to ambitiously shoot The Odyssey entirely with the large, powerful yet crystal-clear cameras.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, depicting the aftermath of the Trojan War and Odysseus' lengthy return journey while interacting with various mythical Greek gods and creatures. Tom Holland from Spider-Man plays Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, who seeks to uncover the fate of his father.
Christopher Nolan's forthcoming film, The Odyssey, is an action-packed mythic epic shot around the globe using cutting-edge IMAX film technology. This movie brings Homer's essential saga to IMAX for the first time and will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
The cast of The Odyssey includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Hamish Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Vlamis, and Iddo Goldberg.
