Tom Cruise Aims to Rescue Humanity in the Initial Teaser for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger

After a period of predominantly being recognized as the world's top action star, Tom Cruise is set to return to a more dramatic role next fall. He is leading Alejandro G. Iñárritu's upcoming film—now titled Digger—along with a cast that includes Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman. Filmed by Emmanuel Lubezki, the initial teaser offers a glimpse with a few shots ahead of its release on October 2, 2026.

As we begin our feature on the 100 most-anticipated films of 2026, Luke Hicks remarked, "Iñárritu's much-anticipated film since The Revenant (with the exception of Bardo) is touted as a ‘brutal comedy’ focusing on the world's most powerful man attempting to rescue humanity from his own disastrous invention—an exciting prospect for film enthusiasts who have missed Cruise in more substantive roles, rather than primarily in action films (even if they are often very good). While Cruise has elevated action stardom in the 21st century, which is impressive, he previously established himself as one of the greatest actors ever through diverse performances with top directors. Between 1985 and 2006, he collaborated with renowned names like Coppola, Scorsese, Spielberg, PTA, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Cameron Crowe, De Palma, Oliver Stone, Ron Howard, Barry Levinson, the late Rob Reiner, and Kubrick, among others. With Digger arriving in October 2026, it may signal his long-awaited return to thought-provoking cinema."
