Laurence Fishburne is set to be a part of Mike Flanagan's The Exorcist.
Mike Flanagan's upcoming reboot of The Exorcist has added another prominent name to its cast. According to Variety, Laurence Fishburne, known for his roles in The Matrix and John Wick, will join Scarlett Johansson in the latest chapter of this iconic franchise.
Flanagan's version of The Exorcist will not be a continuation of The Exorcist: Believer; instead, it will present an original story rebooting the series. Flanagan has penned the script and will take on directing duties.
Fishburne becomes part of a cast that includes Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Diane Lane, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. While specifics regarding character roles are currently undisclosed, filming will commence in New York City.
The Exorcist originally premiered in 1973, telling the story of two priests summoned to a young girl's home to exorcise a malevolent demon, leading to a night filled with horrors for both them and the girl's family. The film was instantly recognized as a groundbreaking classic and is often referred to as one of the scariest films in history. Fishburne has shared that the original film frightened him as a child and inspired him to pursue a career in acting.
Flanagan is well-versed in the horror genre, and he has previously mentioned his ambition to make The Exorcist "the scariest movie I've ever made" with a "radical new take" on the franchise.
The Exorcist is scheduled for release on March 12, 2027.
