Two Women Trailer: Delightful Canadian Comedy About Love and Relationships Debuts This April

One of the more enjoyable Sundance premieres I attended last year was the sex comedy Two Women, directed by Canadian filmmaker Chloé Robichaud. The film focuses on two mothers navigating their unfulfilled desires in distinctive ways. As it prepares for its release on April 24 at NYC’s Angelika, Joint Venture has unveiled the new U.S. trailer for this Sundance jury-winning screenplay.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Two Women is an unstoppable comedy about two mothers who refuse to accept stagnant existences, instead seeking the joy that brings them a sense of life and fulfillment. As neighbors Violette (Laurence Leboeuf) and Florence (Karine Gonthier-Hyndman) connect over the monotony of parenthood, they discover that the key to reviving their zest for life may lie in embracing their desires.”

In my review, I noted, “While American cinema generally tends to have a puritanical stance on sex, our neighbors to the north have managed to create a refreshingly candid and funny comedy of manners focused on pursuing erotic pleasure when life feels stuck. Written by Catherine Léger, adapted from her own stage play Home Deliveries, which draws inspiration from Claude Fournier’s 1970 film Two Women in Gold, Chloé Robichaud's Two Women is playful, lively, and deeply heartfelt. It bravely ventures into life's darker aspects, such as depression, infidelity, and the mundanity that can accompany new motherhood. Its comedy-first perspective is paired with a soothing sense of tenderness and agility, shot on 35mm film with a vibrant warmth by cinematographer Sara Mishara.”
