Disney+ has confirmed the renewal of Marvel's Wonder Man for a second season.
After its debut in January, Marvel Studios and Disney have officially commissioned a second season of Wonder Man, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley set to reprise their roles.
The series centers on Mateen as Simon Williams, an actor striving to build a successful career in Hollywood by auditioning for a superhero movie, only to unexpectedly acquire superpowers himself. In the story, Williams encounters Trevor Slattery, the character played by Kingsley in Iron Man 3, who once posed as the Mandarin and later returned in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, where he was held captive by the true Mandarin, Xu Wenwu, the father of Shang-Chi.
Wonder Man was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, both of whom will return for the second season, with Cretton acting as showrunner and Guest directing. They also serve as executive producers for the series.
Wonder Man is part of Marvel’s Phase Six, which includes the TV series Daredevil: Born Again, launching its second season today, the special The Punisher: One Last Kill in May, and VisionQuest later this year. The next MCU film will feature everyone’s beloved wall-crawler returning to screens this summer in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, followed by the highly anticipated multiversal film Avengers: Doomsday in December.
Aspiring actor Simon Williams is having difficulty advancing his career in Hollywood. In a fortuitous encounter with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose prime roles may be in his past, Simon discovers that legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film “Wonder Man.” These two actors, at vastly different stages of their careers, fervently chase transformative roles in this project, offering audiences a glimpse behind the scenes of the entertainment industry.
The cast of Wonder Man includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Ben Kingsley, Arian Moayed, X Mayo, Zlatko Burić, Olivia Thirlby, and Byron Bowers.
