Brian Cox plays the New York Ripper in season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection.

Dexter Morgan has identified his next victim, as Brian Cox (Succession) has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection for its second season. Cox will portray Don Frampt, known as the New York Ripper, a serial killer frequently referenced in the first season even though he was not seen. He was mentioned as a previous member of Leon Prater’s serial killer club and the elusive case that Detective Claudette Wallace couldn't crack. After Dexter left Prater’s mansion, he took all the files Prater had collected on his serial killers over the years, intending to dispense his own form of justice, placing the Ripper at the top of his list.

Cox is set to play a regular character in the second season as the retired Ripper. "Although he's no longer actively killing, he's found a way to thrive on his notoriety by continuing to taunt the survivors of his past murder spree."

Dexter: Resurrection was created by original series showrunner Clyde Phillips. The series picks up several weeks after Dexter: New Blood, where Dexter survived a gunshot wound and went to New York City to find his son, Harrison. During this time, he uncovers a group of serial killers who meet annually while his old friend Angel Batista, now suspecting Dexter's identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher, is on his trail.

The cast features Michael C. Hall reprising his iconic role as Dexter Morgan, alongside Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, and Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, with James Remar portraying Dexter's father, Harry Morgan. It remains unclear if Uma Thurman, who played Prater’s head of security Charley, or Eric Stonestreet’s Gareth/Rapunzel, the only member of the group to escape Dexter’s grasp, will return.

Dexter: Resurrection unfolds weeks after Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is shot by his own son, awakening from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) missing without a trace. Realizing the impact of his actions on his son, Dexter sets off to New York City, determined to locate him and rectify things. However, attaining closure proves to be challenging. With Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arriving with questions, Dexter realizes that his past is swiftly catching up to him. As father and son confront their shared darkness in the city that never sleeps, they find themselves entangled in more than they anticipated, understanding that the only way out is together.
