Jinsei Trailer: A Japanese Film Taking a Century to Create, Made by One Animator

A remarkable achievement in DIY animation, Ryuya Suzuki spent 18 months creating his debut feature, Jinsei, where he took on the roles of animator, director, writer, editor, and musician all by himself. The film premiered at the Annecy Film Festival to positive reviews, and Greenwich Entertainment has scheduled its release starting June 5 in NYC, with a nationwide rollout beginning June 12. Ahead of the launch, the first trailer has been unveiled.

Featuring a voice cast that includes ACE COOL, Taketo Tanaka, Shohei Uno, Tsubaki Nekoze, Remi Tyon, Eri Kamataki, Ryotaro Nishino, Ayumu Nakajima, Katsuya Maiguma, Miho Ohashi, and Kanji Tsuda, the synopsis reads: “Our hero embarks on a journey as a J-pop idol, an outcast, and an oracle in this 100-year saga of an extraordinary life, encompassing the past, present, and future.”

“In my personal experience, I found that I could create this film almost entirely on my own, which required a great deal of perseverance. It was a kind of lesson in focus, and I believe that aspect of me developed,” Ryuya Suzuki shared with Anime News Network. “As a director, I’ve always had a passion for drawing, so I did a lot of it and involved professional actors in the recording process, which made me appreciate the joy of collaborating with professionals.”
