A24 is gearing up for another remake of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, announcing that Curry Barker will head to the Sawyer residence to reimagine Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic once more.

According to Variety, the rising director has been chosen to “reimagine” the iconic creation of Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel. This film is not the only Texas Chainsaw project in the works, as there's also a TV series being developed by Glen Powell, Dan Cohen, and director JT Mollner.

Barker, who garnered attention with his $800 debut found-footage film Milk & Serial, is in high demand within the horror genre. His highly anticipated debut feature, Obsession, is set to release next month after a $14 million bidding war following its presentation at TIFF, and he is currently working on Anything But Ghosts for Blumhouse.

The 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre led to three sequels in 1986, 1990, and 1995, before the slasher franchise was rebooted with Michael Bay’s production of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and its disappointing sequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006). Leatherface made a comeback in 2013 with Texas Chainsaw 3D, advertised as a direct sequel to Hooper’s original. This was followed by a prequel titled Leatherface in 2017, and a forgettable requel that got lost in the Netflix library in 2022.
