A24's reimagining of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has appointed Curry Barker as its director.

A24 is gearing up for another remake of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, announcing that Curry Barker will be heading to the Sawyer home to reinterpret Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic once more.

According to Variety, the rising director has been given the task of “reimagining” the iconic work of Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel. This upcoming film isn't the only Texas Chainsaw project being developed; a previously mentioned TV series from Glen Powell, Dan Cohen, and director JT Mollner is also in the pipeline.

Recently gaining attention with his $800 debut found-footage film Milk & Serial, Barker is becoming a sought-after name in the horror genre. His highly anticipated debut feature Obsession will be released next month after a $14 million bidding war following its premiere at TIFF, and he is currently working on Anything But Ghosts for Blumhouse.

The 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre led to three sequels released in 1986, 1990, and 1995, followed by a reboot produced by Michael Bay, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), and its disappointing sequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006). Leatherface made a return in 2013 with Texas Chainsaw 3D, marketed as a direct sequel to Hooper’s original, and was followed by a prequel named Leatherface in 2017. Most recently, a forgettable requel appeared on Netflix in 2022.
