Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu are on track for a million-dollar opening at the domestic box office.
We are just three weeks away from our first big-screen glimpse of Star Wars since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and box office experts are speculating about how the Disney+ spin-off Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will perform.
The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the Jon Favreau-directed sci-fi blockbuster is expected to debut with around $80 million at the domestic box office during the four-day Memorial Day weekend, aligning with the expectations set by Disney and Lucasfilm.
Should it open within that range, it would place it alongside 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which opened with $84 million domestically over the three-day Memorial Day weekend, totaling $104 million for the four days.
Favreau, the creator of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, directed the film based on a script he co-authored with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. The movie will continue the adventures of Pedro Pascal’s titular bounty hunter and his beloved companion, Baby Yoda, also known as Grogu. Starring Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White, Mandalorian and Grogu still have a few weeks to boost those figures, including the May 4th Star Wars holiday, before we discover if this is indeed the path forward.
With the evil Empire fallen and Imperial warlords scattered across the galaxy, the emerging New Republic is striving to safeguard what the Rebellion sacrificed for, relying on the legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 22nd, 2026.
