Following the creation of one of 2026's standout films, the exciting and comedic Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, Matt Johnson is returning with his next project. The Canadian director demonstrated his talent for presenting a unique perspective on a true story with BlackBerry, and his upcoming film will delve into the early life of the late, renowned chef Anthony Bourdain, featuring Dominic Sessa in the title role. The cast also includes Emilia Jones, Dagmara Domińczyk, Rich Sommer, Stavros Halkias, Leo Woodall, and Antonio Banderas. A24 has released the first trailer in anticipation of an August premiere.
“Those two sections of Kitchen Confidential feel like ‘Genesis’ to me,” Matt Johnson shared with EW. “There’s not much action, but the details are rich. It allowed the cast and me to explore this man’s beginnings, with the knowledge of his journey 20 years later.” He further remarked, “I had lunch with Dominic in New York alongside my producer, and within an hour, we were collaboratively drafting what would eventually transform into the film's screenplay.”
