New Trailer for Jane Schoenbrun's Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma Analyzes the Slasher Genre
Easily one of the standout features of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival (making it onto nearly every top 10 list from our critics), Jane Schoenbrun’s follow-up to I Saw the TV Glow, titled Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, offers a wildly engaging look at the slasher genre, eroticism, and everything in between. Starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, a new trailer and poster have been released ahead of MUBI’s launch on August 7.
Here’s the synopsis: “After enduring years of half-hearted sequels and declining popularity, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is entrusted to an eager young director for a revival. However, when she seeks out the film's original star, a now-reclusive actress cloaked in enigma, they become entwined in a blood-drenched realm of yearning, dread, and insanity.”
Rory O’Connor noted in his review at Cannes, “When discussing her formative film experiences, Jane Schoenbrun has mentioned the month she dedicated to watching all the Nightmare on Elm Street sequels at the age of 11. One might say the foundations for their latest film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, were laid during those four weeks—particularly with New Nightmare, Wes Craven’s early deconstruction of a genre he had a hand in creating. However, as is often the case with efforts to dissect this unique film, Schoenbrun anticipates your analysis.”
The cast also includes Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Quintessa Swindell, Kevin McDonald, and Jack Haven. Check out the new trailer and poster below:
