Utopia: The Creation of a Nation Archive Edition to be released physically for Super Nintendo.
Boutique game publisher 33 Games has revealed plans to launch a premium physical edition of Utopia: The Creation of a Nation Archive Edition for the Super Nintendo (SNES) later this year. Developed in collaboration with Umbra Dynamics, this version of one of Gremlin’s most cherished games will have players establishing colonies on extraterrestrial worlds.
Gremlin’s Utopia: The Creation of a Nation first debuted on 16-bit computers in 1991 and subsequently came to the Super Nintendo in 1993. Fans often referred to this classic as ‘SimCity in space,’ but it offered so much more than mere city building. It served as a colonization simulator set on alien planets, where generating oxygen was as crucial as producing power. What distinguished it from other city builders was the inclusion of alien assaults and the necessity for city defenses. Initially, these would be minor attacks, but they would escalate in frequency and intensity, making it essential to have adequate defenses around the colony.
The announcement of Utopia: The Creation of a Nation Archive Edition follows the release of 33 Games’ Zool (also by Gremlin) for the Sega Mega Drive, which can now be reserved on the 33 Games website.
In this upcoming edition, 33 Games is collaborating with the game’s original cover artist Danny Flynn to help create and reimagine the game's visual identity for this new release. Additionally, the original version was compatible with the SNES Mouse, and a compatible mouse will also be included in the physical edition, along with other extras.
Utopia: The Creation of a Nation Archive Edition is set to be released this Autumn. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
