Barrio Triste Trailer: Stillz, a collaborator of Bad Bunny, makes a daring directorial debut set to release in July.
Last year, Stillz’s directorial debut, Barrio Triste, made a significant impact on the festival circuit, being selected for Venice, TIFF, and NYFF. It is now set to be released in theaters in a suitable spot this July. Executive produced by Harmony Korine and featuring an original score by Arca, Film Movement will premiere this first feature from the Bad Bunny collaborator in theaters on July 10, and the new trailer has just been released.
The synopsis reads: “In a poverty-stricken neighborhood of 1980s Medellín, a group of disenchanted teenagers take a TV reporter’s camera to capture their lives. As they navigate the oppressive atmosphere of their surroundings with insightful reflections on dreams and death, their perception of reality and hope begins to deteriorate amid reports of mysterious lights descending from the sky, coinciding with time and space distortions.”
In his review, C.J. Prince stated, “At just under two years old, Harmony Korine’s ‘post-cinema’ company EDGLRD is already expanding. Following his direction of AGGRO DR1FT and Baby Invasion, Korine shifts to a producer role for Barrio Triste, the debut feature of Colombian-American artist Stillz. This collaboration works well, especially given Stillz’s experience as a music video director for artists like Bad Bunny and Rosalia. While Barrio Triste adopts a vibes-driven style similar to Korine’s recent films, it is distinctly unique. Exciting, tense, intimate, and mysterious, Barrio Triste offers a fascinating glimpse into a lost generation seeking redemption, and ranks among the year’s standout debut features.”
