Ethan Hawke Sets Out on a Dangerous Adventure in the Initial Trailer for The Weight

One of the standout films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival is Padraic McKinley’s *The Weight*, a historical thriller featuring Ethan Hawke, Russell Crowe, Julia Jones, Austin Amelio, Avi Nash, and Sam Hazeldine on a perilous adventure. With a release date set for September 18 by Vertical, the first trailer has just been unveiled.

The synopsis reads: “In 1933 Oregon, Samuel Murphy is separated from his daughter and sent to a harsh work camp. Warden Clancy offers him the possibility of early release in exchange for smuggling gold through a dangerous wilderness, but mistrust brews among the crew, leading Murphy to question how far he will go to reunite with his child.”

Kent M. Wilhelm commented in his review from Sundance, “McKinley’s gripping and occasionally harsh thriller appeals to audiences without being overbearing. He combines a captivating concept, exhilarating scenes, and stunning cinematography with a strong cast that immerses you in the perilous journey. *The Weight* takes cues from action-adventure films like *Cliffhanger* and *Indiana Jones*, yet carries a more introspective spirit—one hand on its heart and the other wielding a weapon.”
