Janus Films has released a poster and trailer for The Samurai and the Prisoner, a Japanese historical drama directed and written by Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
Adapted from Honobu Yonezawa's novel Kokurojo, the story follows Lord Murashige Araki, who finds himself besieged in his own castle. As the oppressive army of Nobunaga Oda approaches and a string of mysterious crimes disrupts his court, Araki must reluctantly ally with the imprisoned strategist Kanbei Kuroda before it's too late.
The cast features Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, Yuriko Yoshitaka, Munetaka Aoki, Ryota Miyadate, and Joe Odagiri.
When Lord Murashige Araki defies the tyrant Nobunaga Oda, he becomes trapped within his own castle walls. Alone and confronted by a wave of mysterious crimes that destabilize his court, he faces fear and mistrust among his ranks. With Oda’s forces advancing and a traitor among his defenders, Murashige is compelled to forge a tenuous partnership with Kanbei Kuroda, a cunning yet perilous strategist imprisoned in the dungeon. With the assistance of his wife Chiyoho and his most devoted generals, Murashige must reveal the truth before his castle succumbs.
The Samurai and the Prisoner is set to hit theaters on July 31st.
