Julian Trailer: Cato Kusters' Highly Praised TIFF Pick is Set to Release in August
Cato Kusters’ Julian, which received acclaim as a directorial debut at TIFF last year, has been acquired by Strand Releasing and is set for release this summer. The drama, produced by Lukas and Michiel Dhont, will hit theaters starting August 7 at NYC’s IFC Center, and a new trailer has been released.
Here’s the synopsis: “Following an unexpected meeting, Fleur and Julian fall deeply in love. Shortly after Julian proposes, an ambitious yet challenging idea begins to take shape in Fleur's mind. Gradually, she devises a plan to marry in every country where she and her wife can legally do so. Driven by their love and a growing sense of urgency, they take a leap of faith. However, after just four marriages, their journey encounters an inevitable and painful stop.”
Jake Kring-Schreifels noted in his TIFF review, “It’s a fleeting, transient moment. At a concert, Fleur (Nina Meurisse) and Julian (Laurence Roothooft) lock eyes just as she sits down, and suddenly, a spark ignites. The fascination and mutual attraction swiftly develop into a courtship, followed by an unexpected engagement toast during dinner with friends. While celebrating the news, Fleur interrupts with a bold statement: she and her soon-to-be wife will not just marry in France––they plan to wed in every country that acknowledges same-sex unions, totaling 22. They decide that this chance encounter can serve as a powerful declaration. Though their love may be impulsive, it doesn’t need to be subdued.”
