In The Runner, Gal Gadot takes on the role of Maia, a lawyer and mother who drops her son off at school for a brief jog ahead of an important day in court. However, her run turns out to be much longer than she anticipated.
Before long, she receives a call from her son Noah's phone: kidnappers have taken him and demand that she continue running while completing a series of tasks if she wants to get him back.
The situation escalates quickly as the unknown caller instructs her to kill the key witness in her case. Thus, she embarks on a frantic journey through London to rescue her son — and outsmart the kidnappers before they can inflict severe harm. They monitor her every move as she races through the woods, streets, and the Tube. This ordeal tests her endurance in every possible way.
Directed by Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland) and penned by Mark Gibson (The Wild), the film also features Damien Lewis, Rory Wilmot, and Alfred Enoch. In addition to highlighting the Wonder Woman star's acting and action skills, The Runner aims to deliver a tight, engaging thriller with a runtime of only 84 minutes.
There are also indications that Maia has a past that may soon resurface. Amazon MGM Studios describes it as “a visceral, high-stakes race where every second matters, every decision has consequences, and a mother’s unwavering love becomes the most formidable weapon of all.”
The Runner is set to premiere on Prime Video on September 2, from Amazon MGM Studios.
