The Scout Trailer: Paula González-Nasser's Praised Debut Chronicles a Day in the Life of a Location Scout.

Having premiered to considerable praise at last year’s Tribeca Festival, Paula González-Nasser’s debut film, The Scout, portrays a day in the life of a location scout in New York City. The ensemble cast includes Mimi Davila, Rutanya Alda, Max Rosen, Ikechukwu Ufomadu, Sarah Herrman, Alex Goldberg, Peter Mills Weiss, Jackson Devereux, Jesse Ruuttila, Lisa Haas, and Otmara Marrero. The film will be released starting September 25 at NYC’s Film Forum and on October 2 at DTLA’s Alamo Drafthouse, followed by a national rollout from Greenwich Entertainment. In anticipation of this, the new trailer has been released.

The synopsis reads: “Sofia is a location scout working on a TV pilot shooting in New York City. Her task is to find the homes, businesses, and exteriors for filming. As she drives through various neighborhoods, she enters the private spaces of strangers to capture images of their inviting apartments and unique shops, stepping into their lives while trying to meet the demands of her unpredictable employers. Throughout this day filled with encounters, Sofia experiences moments of curiosity, vulnerability, and subtle tension until her work unexpectedly becomes personal. Drawing from her own experiences as a location scout, writer-director Paula González-Nasser artfully depicts both the beauty and challenges of being a young creative. Her acclaimed directorial debut, THE SCOUT, offers a thoughtful exploration of urban alienation, as it follows one woman navigating through the lives of others while seeking her own.”

Michael Frank commented in his Tribeca review, “González-Nasser encourages a sense of openness from the characters, each interacting with Sofia in their own scene, whether through banter, discomfort, or a mix of both. The young location scout manages it all effortlessly, as though she frequently faces such situations. Each apartment visit is part of her job—something she doesn’t particularly love but accepts. At times, she may even appreciate the chance to sit on someone’s couch and hear their story or discover a new tip to tackle her stack of parking tickets.”
