Alicia Silverstone will reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in the sequel series to Clueless.

      Paramount+ has officially revealed that Alicia Silverstone will reprise her role as the iconic Cher Horowitz in a new event series sequel to the beloved 90s teen comedy, Clueless.

      “Clueless is returning,” remarked Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+. “Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captured the hearts of audiences thirty-one years ago with her distinctive style, quick humor, and unwavering optimism, contributing to Clueless's success at the box office and its status as a pop culture phenomenon. We are particularly excited to shoot this highly anticipated series in Los Angeles, paying tribute to its prominent role in the original film while also supporting the city’s remarkable talent and crews.”

      The logline for the sequel series states: “Set 30 years after the original film, beloved Beverly Hills figure Cher Horowitz has accomplished a great deal: she thrives in business and has mastered motherhood—until her daughter enters high school, making Cher feel ‘clueless’ once again about parenting a teenager.”

      The series is being penned and executive produced by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (The OC, Gossip Girl) along with Jordan Weiss (Freaky Friday, Dollface). Alicia Silverstone will also serve as an executive producer, joining the original film’s writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence.

      Released in 1995 and inspired loosely by Jane Austen’s Emma, Clueless followed wealthy Beverly Hills high schooler Cher Horowitz as she navigated adolescence, played matchmaker for her teachers, and provided a “clueless” new student with a makeover. The film later led to a three-season TV series spinoff in 1996, in which Silverstone did not participate, although she did reprise her role as Cher in a Super Bowl commercial in 2023.

      Initial reports of the sequel series surfaced last year, with streaming service Peacock initially involved, but the NBCUniversal-owned platform abandoned the project earlier this year, paving the way for Paramount+. This followed a previous effort by Peacock to create a mystery-oriented TV series reboot.
