Horror legends Sam Raimi and Stephen King are set to join forces for the first time, with Raimi, known for his work on Evil Dead, producing an adaptation of King's 1996 novel Desperation. The film will be directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who helmed Final Destination: Bloodlines.

The synopsis for Desperation states: “Trapped in a secluded desert town where an evil presence has been unleashed, a group of travelers must struggle to survive as a sadistic, possessed police officer turns standard arrests into a relentless battle for their lives.”

Desperation was previously adapted into a TV movie in 2006, featuring Tom Skerritt and Ron Perlman, with Mick Garris, a frequent collaborator of King, directing from a script written by the author.

Raimi and his producing partner Robert Tapert will produce the new film under their Ghost House Pictures banner for Searchlight Pictures. Lipovsky and Stein will also serve as producers while directing from a script by Ryan Brennan.

About Gary Collinson: Gary Collinson is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Flickering Myth. He is a writer and producer of film, television, and digital content, with credits including the gothic horror feature The Baby in the Basket, the suspense thriller Death Among the Pines, and the reboot of the horror franchise Robert Returns. He is also the author of Holy Franchise, Batman! Bringing the Caped Crusader to the Screen.
