An animated event series set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe is currently being developed for Prime Video.
As development progresses on Henry Cavill's live-action Warhammer 40,000 series, with Mike Flanagan recently joining as director and showrunner, Variety reports that Prime Video has also approved an animated event series set in the Games Workshop universe.
The series, which is yet to be titled, will be a spinoff from Blur Studio's animated anthology series, Secret Level, particularly focusing on the Warhammer 40,000 episode titled ‘And They Shall Know No Fear’. Directed by Dave Wilson, he will also be the director and co-creator of the upcoming animated event series, collaborating with John Orloff (Band of Brothers). Henry Cavill will serve as an executive producer alongside Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment and Tim Miller, head of Blur Studios and creator of Secret Level.
“Secret Level wasn’t just meant to be an anthology. It was intended to be a launchpad for larger narratives,” Wilson explained. “The response to the Warhammer episode was incredible, especially from fans who appreciated the effort put into accurately depicting the world. This series allows us to expand upon that groundwork and tell a much broader story. For over twenty years, I have wanted to create a long-form narrative set in Warhammer 40,000, and I am deeply thankful to Games Workshop and Amazon MGM Studios for this opportunity.”
Warhammer 40,000, the world's most popular tabletop miniature wargame, is set in a dark, distant future where humanity faces threats from hostile aliens and supernatural forces. It has led to numerous video games, novels, and other media, with Amazon MGM Studios acquiring the TV and film rights in 2022. Henry Cavill, a dedicated fan, is overseeing the development of a variety of potential projects.
Secret Level is an animated anthology series from Blur Studio, featuring episodes set in different video game universes. The first season includes not only Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 but also covers Dungeons & Dragons, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Unreal Tournament. A second season is already in the works.
