Gareth Edwards leaves the sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth.

Universal Pictures is searching for a new Dino-wrangler following the departure of Gareth Edwards as director of Jurassic World Rebirth, which he left due to “creative differences.”

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the film will see the return of its main trio: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, but this time, the chaos involving dinosaurs won't be managed by the director known for Godzilla and Monsters.

While no specifics on the creative differences have been disclosed, Universal issued a statement expressing that “We had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth.” This ‘incredible experience’ likely refers to the fact that, despite lukewarm reviews from critics, the seventh installment of the successful franchise raked in $869 million globally.

David Koepp, who penned the original film in 1993 as well as Rebirth in 2026, will return to write the sequel, while Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg and producer Frank Marshall continue their long-standing involvement.
