Fox is working on an animated sequel series for Joe Dirt.

      As the cult comedy marks its 25th anniversary, Deadline is reporting that David Spade is poised to return to his iconic role from 2001’s Joe Dirt, providing his voice for an animated sequel series that is being developed by Fox.

      The series’ logline reveals: “Twenty-five years have passed, and Joe Dirt (Spade) is still hanging in there. His love for Brandy remains, his hair hasn’t separated from the mullet, and most importantly, his boundless optimism endures. And he'll need it—just because he’s now married with three teenage daughters doesn’t mean his troubles have vanished. The challenges are greater, and Joe’s cleaning supplies just won't suffice.

      This series is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment, with the script penned by Scott Gairdner (Moonbeam City). Spade will serve as an executive producer alongside Fred Wolf, who co-wrote the original film and its 2015 sequel, Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser. The pair also previously collaborated with Sony TV on an animated concept for TBS back in 2010, though that project ultimately did not progress.
