Exclusive Trailer Launch for Jared Hogan's Oldenburg Debut, Jackrabbit.
After spending years working on shorts and music videos for artists such as Gracie Abrams, Mitski, and Muse, Jared Hogan is set to launch his debut feature as a director at the Oldenburg International Film Festival, taking place from September 16 to 20. The film, titled Jackrabbit, was shot by Corey Waters (The Chronology of Water) in Academy Ratio, showcasing a strong sense of formal control and atmosphere, as highlighted in a trailer that we are excited to exclusively reveal.
The brief synopsis describes the film: “In 1930s Utah, a coal miner conceals his job loss from his family, leading to a gradual unraveling of their lives.”
The director has stated: “Jackrabbit represents the crossroads of adulthood and adolescence. It reflects on life as it grapples with accountability, responsibility, and the systems in which we find ourselves. I married and had children young, confronting the realities of providing for and raising a family came swiftly. When I reflect on my identity, it’s challenging to see anything beyond that of being a worker and a provider. If those roles were stripped away, what would remain? Who am I without being a filmmaker, a father, or a husband? Throughout my journey with this film, an unexpected answer emerged. What seemed to linger, in relation to this film, was a man reverted to his most youthful self, rediscovering a forgotten sense of freedom. Yet he is also faced with an unfamiliar aimlessness. Without routines and responsibilities, he becomes a part of an indifferent landscape—one that speeds ahead without considering him. For me, the film acts as a fable, revealing an age-old truth that what we sometimes perceive as constraints are often the very things that provide us with meaning.”
Check out the preview for the film featuring Frank Mosley (They Follow, Obex), Ember Ambrose (Backrooms), Kate Adams, and Robert Broski (the Woodsman from Twin Peaks):
