Linda Cardellini is reportedly in negotiations for the role of Mrs. Voorhees in Crystal Lake.
Peacock and A24’s Friday the 13th television series, Crystal Lake, has encountered similar challenges as its cinematic counterpart in getting off the ground. Initially announced in 2022 by Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, the project saw Fuller’s vision taken off the table—essentially “macheted”—two years later in favor of a “retooling” led by Brad Caleb Kane, who is also the showrunner for the upcoming It prequel series, Welcome to Derry.
Now, a few months after Kane's appointment, it appears that the series may soon make a significant casting decision. Jeff Sneider of The Insneider reports that Linda Cardellini (Scooby-Doo, Dead to Me) is in negotiations to play Pamela Voorhees, the mother of the franchise's iconic masked murderer, Jason Voorhees—the original killer as portrayed by Betsy Palmer in the 1980 film.
While details about Crystal Lake remain largely undisclosed, it has been acknowledged that A24 has successfully navigated the complex rights issues surrounding Friday the 13th to obtain full control of the franchise, including the adult version of Jason, who only appeared for the first time in the 1981 sequel before donning his famous hockey mask in Friday the 13th Part III the following year.
Linda Cardellini is the first actress linked to this reimagined Crystal Lake, with Fuller’s previous iteration reportedly eyeing Charlize Theron for the role of the murderous mother, aimed to be a reimagined four-season narrative covering the first four films in a movie franchise that has been inactive since the 2009 remake. While Cardellini’s casting is still unconfirmed, there is hope for official news soon.

Peacock and A24's television series Crystal Lake, based on Friday the 13th, has not had much more success than its film version in getting started. The series was initially revealed in 2022 by Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, but Fuller's vision was ultimately cut – or more appropriately, macheted – two years later.
