X-Rated Trailer for Bruce LaBruce's The Visitor Presents a Graphic Game of Seduction

After making waves with his bold incest-themed drama Saint-Narcisse, underground Canadian director Bruce LaBruce returned to Berlinale last year with The Visitor, his explicit interpretation of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Teorema. Before its release from Circle Collective this Friday at Roxy Cinema in New York, followed by Landmark NuArt in Los Angeles on March 14, along with additional cities, the X-rated trailer has now been unveiled.

Here’s the synopsis: “Present-day London. A refugee washes up naked in a suitcase on the banks of the Thames. This mysterious, sexually fluid stranger introduces himself to a wealthy upper-class family and is invited to stay on as a worker. The Visitor soon entices every family member through a series of explicit sexual encounters, ultimately turning their lives upside down as they learn to redefine themselves in new and radical manners.”

Savina Petkova noted in her review, “Pasolini targets the fascist upper class and uses sex and humiliation as mechanisms of control against its members, but LaBruce infuses each aspect of the original with a lively energy. Stylistically, The Visitor modernizes Teorema, presenting it as ultramodern. Colorist Andrea Gómez saturates the visuals in sultry reds and deep blues, frequently intercutting scenes in rapid succession, and often splitting the screen into four sections, each with its own perspective and hue. This multiplicity of images, lights, and colors creates its own rhythm, guiding us through the narrative of a pornographic film: a mansion, a knock at the door, surprise, sexual desire, fulfillment, transformation, and conclusion.”
