
Sydney Sweeney will star in I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl.
Sydney Sweeney, known for her roles in Euphoria and Anybody But You, has agreed to star in and produce I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, which is based on a short story by Joe Cote. Cote initially posted the story on Reddit, where it attracted a following. The narrative centers around a drifter who masquerades as a missing girl to steal from the girl’s family, only to realize she has made a grave error.
Eric Roth, known for Dune, will pen the screenplay, while Sweeney will produce through her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films. Additionally, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Trevor Engelson from Vertigo, along with Aaron Folbe from Underground, will also serve as producers. A director has yet to be selected.
Sweeney has multiple projects in the pipeline as she embraces a more active role as a producer following her work on Anybody But You and Immaculate.
Alongside reprising her role as Cassie in the upcoming third season of Euphoria, Sweeney will soon appear in the Apple film Echo Valley, Paul Feig’s The Housemaid, Colman Domingo’s directorial debut Scandalous!, and A24’s The Masque of the Red Death. She is also confirmed to star in a remake of Barbarella for Sony Pictures, with Edgar Wright attached to direct.
