A significant update is set to be released for Galactic Civilizations IV in June.

Players of Galactic Civilizations IV can anticipate a significant update set to release on June 12th. The Hyperlane Update will revamp the fundamental game mechanics, map generation, and AI opponents, with the key feature being the introduction of hyperlanes that will connect star groups and significantly enhance travel speeds between them.

Galactic Civilizations IV has always permitted unrestricted movement, and the incorporation of hyperlanes preserves this favored aspect while enabling a substantial increase in unit speed between stars.

Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock Entertainment, stated: “The Galactic Civilizations games have always been unique because they allow players to move their fleets freely on the map. However, players have expressed a desire for map generation that places groups of stars far apart within a sector. The challenge is that players do not want to spend numerous turns traversing the emptiness of deep space. Hyperlanes provide a solution that accommodates both needs.”

Additionally, the update reduces micromanagement and enhances starship quality by introducing a civilization-wide fleet supply limit that can be expanded through technology. This means players must strategically earn the capacity to produce more vessels instead of having it as a default.

Players will also notice hundreds of minor updates and enhancements, including higher-resolution textures for ships, balance adjustments, and new civilization data screens that offer valuable insights about their civilization.

The Hyperlane Update is currently available as a Preview build on Steam for those interested in trying it out, while the final version will be released on June 12th.
