Disney's Stitch will star in a new comic series launched by Dynamite Entertainment.
With the release of Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch movie this week, Dynamite Entertainment has revealed that Experiment 626 will take the spotlight in his own Stitch comic book series this August, written by Connor Ratliff and James III (Tiny Dinos, Fairly OddParents: A New Wish) with art by Greta Xella.
“It’s incredible how quickly Stitch has become a key figure among Disney characters,” says writer Connor Ratliff. “With Pluto about to celebrate his 95th birthday this fall, I'm struck by the thought that, while Stitch is an alien with a unique backstory, he also represents the 21st-century Disney dog in some respects. Is that a controversial opinion? In any case, James and I had a great time creating these new adventures, and I'm thrilled that readers will now experience them brought to life through Greta’s amazing artwork.”
“It’s not every day you're invited to write for characters created by your heroes Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, along with a comedic genius like my other hero Connor Ratliff; when such an opportunity arises, you seize it!,” adds writer James III. “We’ve come up with some quirky misadventures that we hope will engage both devoted Stitch fans and newcomers.”
Dr. Jumba Jookiba is the brilliant creator of Stitch, the 626th experiment of his kind. However, he has been spending quite a bit of time on Earth lately, straying from his villainous background and expertise. He risks losing his membership in the elite organization E.G.G.S. — the Evil Genius Group-slash-Syndicate. His absence has led to a shortage of “Villain Points,” which he needs to maintain his position within the group. Despite believing he's somewhat reformed from his past misdeeds, he can’t bear to relinquish the perks that come with being a card-carrying E.G.G.S. member, including their dental plan and free travel lounges.
To retain his status, Jumba is embarking on a spree of evil inventions. Each one more menacing than the last, he aims to rack up as many Villain Points as quickly as possible. The only issue is that his companions frequently undermine his efforts or throw a fuzzy, blue wrench into the plan. Earth expert Agent Pleakley attempts to keep the good doctor in check, but the unpredictable Stitch proves to be an even bigger nuisance, consistently derailing each of Jumba’s new, brilliant creations.
In addition to the main cover by Edwin Galmon, Stitch #1 will feature variant covers by Jae Lee, Ciro Cangialosi, and Jennifer L. Meyer.
Disney’s Stitch #1 is scheduled to be released in August 2025.
