The Coen Brothers Will Come Together Again When the Moment is Appropriate.
The Cannes Film Festival is currently taking place, and Ethan Coen will have the honor of concluding the year’s best in cinema with a midnight premiere (this Friday) of his upcoming solo directorial project, Honey Don’t. Co-written with his partner Tricia Cooke, this neo-noir film features Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day, Billy Eichner, and Chris Evans. While the duo intends to create a trilogy of lesbian B-movies (with the last title, not yet greenlit, being Go, Beavers!), fans have been eagerly awaiting news of a rumored reunion between Joel and Ethan Coen, which was supposed to be a “very bloody” horror film reminiscent of Blood Simple.
Although the much-anticipated reunion isn't happening in the near future, it is still a possibility. “Oh yeah. I assume we will [work together again],” Ethan Coen shared with THR. “We’ve written something. My god, it was at least a year ago now that we wrote something to do together. And we have an old project that we've also written. Maybe we’ll write something new. But Joel is about to start something, so we kind of got out of sync. But yeah, the answer is yes. We just need to get in sync again when that happens.”
Ethan didn’t elaborate on the other potential project or what his brother is currently working on, but the Coens have a wealth of unrealized projects to explore, including adaptations of Ross Macdonald’s crime mystery novels The Zebra-Striped Hearse and Black Money, Michael Chabon’s detective novel The Yiddish Policemen’s Union, James Dickey’s WWII thriller To the White Sea, as well as a dark web film about Silk Road, a sequel to Barton Fink, and more.
As we look forward to further updates, take a look at the trailer for Honey Don’t below and check back for our review.
