Kieran Culkin is set to join The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping in the role of Caesar Flickerman.
It's been a bustling week for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, as the forthcoming prequel has cast another fan-favorite character. Kieran Culkin from Succession has boarded the film in the role of Caesar Flickerman, originally portrayed by Stanley Tucci in the earlier movies.
Caesar Flickerman serves as the host and spokesperson for the Hunger Games within the Capitol, promoting the Capitol's propaganda that views the Games as an honorable test of strength worthy of celebration among Capitol residents and its loyal districts, while downplaying the brutal reality faced by the rest of Panem. Flickerman primarily appears in the books and films during the brief interviews he conducts with the tributes on the eve of the Games, providing commentary for the audience.
Culkin recently wrapped up HBO’s acclaimed series Succession, for which he received numerous awards over its four-season run, in addition to winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in A Real Pain.
Released in March by Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping transports fans back to the 50th anniversary of the Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. This event features the popular character Haymitch Abernathy, who was selected as one of District 12’s four tributes to compete in the Games, ultimately winning and later mentoring Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark nearly 25 years after.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Joseph Zada (Invisible Boys) as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons (Civil War) as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Mufasa: The Lion King) as Beetee, Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) as Wiress, Lili Taylor (Outer Range) as Mags, Ben Wang (Karate Kid: Legends) as Wyatt Callow, Molly McCann (The Vanishing Triangle) as Louella McCoy, Iona Bell (Mandrake) as Lou Lou, Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) as President Snow, Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown) as Effie Trinket, alongside Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Kieran Culkin.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set to premiere on November 20, 2026. Ricky Church – Follow me on Bluesky for more movie updates and discussions.
