Dwayne Johnson is reuniting with A24 for a project titled Breakthrough.

      Dwayne Johnson appears to be becoming a favorite at A24, as the film company has signed him for another significant project. According to Deadline, Johnson has joined the cast of Breakthrough, a new psychological thriller written by Zeke Goodman. A director for the film has yet to be appointed.

      Set in Southern California at the turn of the millennium, the story revolves around a disconnected young man who becomes influenced by a motivational guru. The guru's charismatic allure hides his ethically dubious methods of manipulation and his own inner darkness.

      Deadline reports that “Johnson will play the supporting role of the guru, while casting is still ongoing for the lead and other supporting roles.”

      A24 will produce and finance Breakthrough, with Stacey Sher’s Shiny Penny Productions collaborating alongside Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions. Jacob Epstein and Justin Wolf will serve as executive producers through Lighthouse Management and Media.

      Recently, Johnson collaborated with A24 on The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie, in which he plays UFC fighter Mark Kerr. Although he is likely not abandoning his blockbuster roots, Johnson seems eager to diversify his roles, with A24's typical offerings providing an ideal opportunity for that.
