The Top 7 Films Starring Eiza González

Casey Chong highlights the best performances of Eiza Gonzalez…

Originally from Mexico City, Eiza González has made significant strides since her days in telenovelas; she debuted in 2007 with Lola, érase una vez and successfully transitioned to Hollywood. She appeared in From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and had a cameo in the live-action Jem and the Holograms as one of the Misfits. Her career took off with a supporting role in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. Now, González stars alongside John Krasinski and Natalie Portman in the recently released big-budget action-adventure Fountain of Youth on Apple TV+ [read our review here]. Below is our selection of her seven best films to date…

      **Baby Driver (2017)**

Baby Driver features impressive practical car stunts, an excellent soundtrack, and Edgar Wright's adept direction that skillfully combines action with comedy. The cast is exceptional, including Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, and Eiza González, who plays Darling, the sole female member of Doc’s (Spacey) team of criminals. She is seductive, dangerous, and far from weak—arguably one of her most lauded performances. Moreover, her chemistry with Jon Hamm, who portrays the equally unlikable Buddy, is remarkable. Though her role is supportive, she enriches the already lively action-comedy.

      **Ambulance (2022)**

If you can overlook Michael Bay’s tendency for extravagant drone shots, his otherwise self-serving film Ambulance features thrilling action sequences, particularly the chase scene in the Los Angeles River. However, it is the standout cast that enhances the film, starting with Jake Gyllenhaal’s intense portrayal of bank robber Danny and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the conflicted army veteran in desperate need of funds for his wife’s cancer treatment.

Eiza González also delivers a strong performance as EMT officer Cam Thompson, who becomes a hostage in the back of the ambulance. Bay deserves credit for not relegating her to a mere object but giving her a substantial role. González manages to hold her own against established actors like Gyllenhaal and Abdul-Mateen II, subtly serving as a moral compass for both characters.

      **Ash (2025)**

Flying Lotus, a.k.a. Steven Ellison, presents a surprisingly engaging low-budget sci-fi film, Ash, which surprises with its limited resources. The movie includes visually stunning red and blue hues, thanks to Richard Bluck’s atmospheric cinematography and Lotus’ foreboding musical score. Although Ash may resemble other space horror films like Alien and Event Horizon, it remains a captivating experience on its own.

Eiza González leads the film as Riya Ortiz, an amnesiac who wakes up on a space station without understanding her circumstances. She captivates the audience from the beginning with her magnetic performance, even if her character is somewhat idealized as eye candy. Fortunately, González fully commits to her role, pairing well with Aaron Paul, who plays the enigmatic character Brion in a spacesuit.

      **I Care a Lot (2021)**

I Care a Lot serves as a platform for Rosamund Pike to showcase her talent for portraying cunning and devious characters, a skill honed since her breakout role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. She stars as Marla Grayson, a woman conning wealthy senior citizens out of their fortunes. Eiza González plays her partner and lover, Fran, bringing a spirited energy to her supporting role that contrasts with Pike's cold and calculating Marla. González's excellent performance, along with notable contributions from actors such as Dianne Wiest and Peter Dinklage, enhances the film and makes it a compelling watch. I Care a Lot stands out as one of Netflix's better offerings, which tend to favor quantity over quality.

      **Alita: Battle Angel (2019)**

Robert Rodriguez’s ambitious cyberpunk action film, Alita: Battle Angel, features cutting-edge CGI animation suitable for IMAX 3D, with Rosa Salazar as the titular cyborg. Her striking, expressive manga-style eyes may take some time to get accustomed to, but her committed performance makes her a worthy lead. The film also delivers thrilling action scenes, particularly during a dangerous Rollerball-style game.

Eiza González appears as one of the lethal cyborgs under Grewishka’s (Jackie Earle Haley) command. Although her time on screen as Nyssiana is brief, she makes a powerful impression as a ruthless femme fatale cyborg.

      **Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)**

In a film titled Godzilla vs. Kong, fans eagerly anticipate the epic battle between the two monstrous titans. Director Adam Wingard delivers just that, focusing less on human drama but still featuring significant human characters. Eiza González plays Maia Simmons, a top corporate executive focused more on her job than the chaos around her.
