East of Wall Trailer: Kate Beecroft’s Sundance Success Debuts This August
One of the standout premieres at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Kate Beecroft’s "East of Wall," features Tabatha Zimiga portraying a version of herself while managing a ranch in South Dakota's Badlands. Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the film for a theatrical release starting on August 15, and they have now released the first trailer and poster.
The film’s synopsis reads: “EAST OF WALL offers an authentic depiction of female resilience in the 'New West,' inspired by the lives of the women and girls who experience it. Taking place in South Dakota's Badlands, Tabatha, a young and rebellious rancher who rescues and sells horses, faces tough choices while grappling with her fractured family dynamics, financial challenges, and unresolved grief, all while providing shelter for a group of troubled local teens.”
In his Sundance review, Dan Mecca remarked, “The challenges involved in making 'East of Wall' must have been immense: a limited budget, various remote shooting locations, a host of non-professional actors, and the demanding task of coordinating with horses. Written and directed by Kate Beecroft, the film features Tabatha Zimiga as herself. In reality, Zimiga operates a ranch in South Dakota where she raises horses to sell through social media. Her daughter Porshia has a role in the film and delivers a strong performance. Overall, the film represents a fictional narrative shaped by the realities of the Zimiga family. Following the premature passing of her husband, Tabatha finds herself managing significant financial burdens along with a large, chosen family living at her ranch, which includes several older teens without a safe place to call home.”
