The Creation of 'Peeping Todd,' Our Southern Pervert Musical
In the following article, director Josh Munds discusses the creation of his outrageous comic musical "Peeping Todd," which features a stalker and is scheduled to be showcased on Friday at Dances With Films in Los Angeles.—M.M.
You might be wondering how “Peeping Todd” — a musical revolving around a stalker — managed to attract investors from the Bible Belt. The brief answer is, it didn’t. Let me clarify.
“Who wouldn’t want to fund this?!” I declared enthusiastically and naively during a pre-production meeting with our producers, Alexander Jeffery and Chris Alan Evans. We all agreed, believing that the South, particularly Louisiana, was ready for such a project.
I mean, come on, our film can’t be that scandalous! Just take a look at our synopsis: “Peeping Todd” centers on a peeper fixated on a woman named Claire. Even with the HOA tightening the noose and Claire’s ex-boyfriend interfering, Todd remains determined to make Claire his own.
Creating ‘Peeping Todd’ With Friends
The synopsis doesn’t seem all that outrageous, right? But what if I told you Todd engages in a singing duel with his own hand for trying to pleasure him? Or that Claire’s ex, Thad, has an unhealthy fixation with inserting things into his backside?
Southern hospitality set its boundaries with our film.
“But Josh Munds,” you might say, “your film ‘Peeping Todd’ is premiering at Dances with Films on June 20th at 11:45 pm! How did you manage to create it?”
First of all, relax. Don’t rush me. Secondly, it was with a bit of help from my friends.

Once we understood the challenges we faced, we decided to go all in and invest in ourselves.
We combined our resources, utilized our own equipment, borrowed gear from friends, and ultimately found the right people to invest.
Our good friend and exceptional producer, Tamra Corley Davis, stepped up to support us.
The family of our lead actor, Chris Alan Evans, also joined in to help.
Steven Hellmen, a close personal friend of Alexander Jeffery, recognized the potential of ‘Peeping Todd’ and added some much-needed excitement to our endeavor.
Man, I do love a good beef sandwich.
“Peeping Todd”
I’ll speak personally and enthusiastically about one particular investor — my wife, Melissa Munds, who just recently surpassed 2 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, @MelissaKristinTv. She assured me that whatever it took to bring this project to life, we would do it.
And we did.
It took two months to write the songs, record demos, and finalize the script. We spent fifteen days filming. Voilà, “Peeping Todd” was complete.
At the core of this entire undertaking was friends and family collaborating to create something together, even if that something had a thousand-dollar budget for sex toys.
‘Peeping Todd’ will premiere at Dances with Films on Friday at 11:45 p.m.
