James Gunn advises that "people should stop nagging Matt Reeves" about The Batman 2.

James Gunn promptly defended a filmmaker within his DC Studios framework, urging fans to ease off Matt Reeves regarding The Batman Part II.

The discussion arose from a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, where Gunn was inquired about the timeline for Reeves’ sequel to the acclaimed Batman film. When rumors about the potential cancellation of the project surfaced, Gunn expressed his annoyance at the discussions.

In the EW interview, Gunn stated: “People should stop pressuring Matt because he needs the time to write the screenplay at his own pace. That’s simply how it works. He doesn’t owe you anything just because you enjoyed his movie. You appreciate his film because of Matt’s talent, so let him create in his style. I find the entitlement from people frustrating. The movie will come out when he is satisfied with the screenplay. And Matt won't present it to me until he feels confident in it.”

Amidst the ongoing speculation, we did receive a slight update, though it wasn't very definite. “We’re expected to receive a script in June. I hope that happens,” Gunn mentioned. This aligns with rumors that Matt Reeves would be submitting his anticipated script for The Batman 2 this Monday (6/23/25). While this would still leave us quite a distance from production, it would signify progress on a film that many DC enthusiasts are keen to see.

The release of The Batman Part II was postponed by Warner Bros. last year from October 2, 2026, to October 1, 2027. Reeves’ The Batman premiered in 2022 and amassed $772 million globally. It also led to the creation of a successful spin-off series titled The Penguin.

Additionally, James Gunn has a lot on his agenda. As co-chair of the DC Studios brand, he is also heavily involved in promoting his directorial project, Superman, which is slated to serve as a major launching point for the new era of the DCU. Gunn’s Superman is set to hit theaters on July 11, distributed by Warner Bros.
