Based on the tenth novel in Patrick O’Brian’s celebrated ‘Aubrey/Maturin’ series, the film features Russell Crowe as Captain “Lucky Jack” Aubrey, the Royal Navy’s most courageous and experienced commander, with Paul Bettany as his close associate, ship’s surgeon, and naturalist Stephen Maturin. When HMS Surprise is attacked by a more powerful enemy ship, Aubrey must face the harsh realities of war, the relentless ocean, and the challenges of leadership. With his vessel damaged and crew injured, he embarks on an unyielding quest across two oceans – grappling with choices between duty and loyalty, as well as a mission that could decide the fate of nations or lead to their destruction.
