The contentious cult classic Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS is getting a 4K Ultra HD release from Kino Lorber.
Kino Lorber has revealed that it will release a 4K Ultra HD version of director Don Edmonds’ highly controversial 1975 film Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS in the United States. The film, which the BBFC rejected for release in the UK and remains banned there, features Dyanne Thorne as the lead character, Isla, a sadistic and hypersexual commandant of a concentration camp — a role that helped build a cult following for both the film and the actress. Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS serves as a quintessential example of Nazisploitation and is a key film in the 1970s sexploitation genre. It portrays the horrifying acts committed by a cruel commandant (Dyanne Thorne) in a German concentration camp. Isla exploits male prisoners as sexual objects and conducts medical torture on women, executing those who fail to meet her twisted desires. Despite film critic Gene Siskel's condemnation of it as “the most degenerate picture I have seen…a textbook for rapists and mutilation freaks,” Don Edmonds’s film of violence became an unexpected hit, cementing Thorne’s status as a grindhouse icon and leading to three sequels and numerous imitations, none of which matched the original's shocking depravity.
