Love, Brooklyn Trailer: André Holland Explores Contemporary Relationships
True to its title, Rachael Abigail Holder’s Love, Brooklyn is a charming romance that follows André Holland as he navigates contemporary relationships. Featuring Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise, Roy Wood Jr., Cassandra Freeman, and Cadence Reese, the film made its debut at Sundance and has been acquired by Greenwich Entertainment. With a release set for NYC’s Angelika starting August 29, and a nationwide rollout on September 5, the first trailer has now been unveiled.
The synopsis states: “A writer (André Holland, Moonlight) deals with complex relationships with his ex, an art gallery owner (Nicole Beharie, The Morning Show), and his current partner, a recently single mother (DeWanda Wise, She’s Gotta Have It), with the help of his best friend (Roy Wood Jr., The Daily Show). This modern romance unfolds against the swiftly changing backdrop of Brooklyn, New York. A Sundance premiere.”
In his review from Sundance, Jake Kring-Schreifels remarked, “You can feel the warm breeze wafting through Love, Brooklyn, a soft, dreamlike summer film that often hovers on the brink of reality. Rachael Abigail Holder's debut feature, penned by Paul Zimmerman, doesn’t simply weave in and out of abstract fantasy, but her portrayal of this swiftly transforming borough occasionally feels as if it belongs to an alternate universe. The nighttime streets, parks, and bars appear nearly deserted. The Fort Greene and Bed-Stuy neighborhoods look immaculate, uncluttered, and enigmatic. Everyone involved in this romantic triangle holds a vague occupation that affords them a remarkably comfortable lifestyle. Everything seems just a bit too perfect.”
