The B-Side – Jordan Harper discusses She Rides Shotgun.
Welcome to The B-Side! Here, we discuss movie stars, directors, and occasionally––occasionally––movie writers! Today, we chat with author and screenwriter Jordan Harper, whose novel She Rides Shotgun has been adapted into a film of the same name, directed by Nick Rowland and featuring Taron Egerton and Ana Sophia Heger. The movie hits theaters on Friday, August 1, 2025.
We talked with Harper about the process of adapting his novel for film, his feelings upon viewing the final cut, and the outstanding performances by Egerton and Heger. He also mentions his other works, The Last King of California and Everybody Knows, along with B-Sides reminiscent of She Rides Shotgun, such as One False Move, Flesh & Bone, A Perfect World, and Lone Star. Harper also references Freeway, which is an excellent mention.
Harper discusses his upcoming novel set to release next year: A Violent Masterpiece. There’s also a nod to Shogun Assassin (a direct influence on She Rides Shotgun) and a conversation about genre and tropes, exploring why they work so effectively when executed well.
