
An animated Spider-Punk movie is in the works from Daniel Kaluuya and Sony.
Sony Pictures Animation recognizes the impact of a compelling Spider-Man narrative and is now set to broaden their cinematic multiverse with a new film centered on the cherished character Spider-Punk. According to Deadline, the studio is in the process of creating a movie that explores the adventures of the character introduced in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). Daniel Kaluuya, the voice actor, is collaborating with screenwriter Ajon Singh on the script.
At this stage, no director is associated with the project, but the report mentions that Amy Pascal will join Christopher Miller and Phil Lord as producers of the potential Spider-Punk film.
Spider-Punk, whose real name is Hobart “Hobie” Brown, is an alternate version of Spider-Man known for his punk rock style and rebellious, anti-establishment spirit. He made his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #10 (2015), created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel. In his universe, he takes on the role of Spider-Man of Earth-138, battling the authoritarian regime led by President Norman Osborn.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse captivated audiences worldwide, introducing Miles Morales and a variety of Spider-Man iterations. The film was highly successful, earning over $394 million globally and winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Its sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, surpassed $690 million in worldwide earnings and received an Oscar nomination.
