Jason Momoa and David Leitch collaborate on The Pirate.
Can The Pirate bring fight choreography-focused action films to the ocean? Deadline has reported that Amazon MGM Studios has secured a captivating spec script.
Taking the lead in production are Jason Momoa and David Leitch, who will produce the film based on a script by Will Dunn. The report confirms that Leitch and Kelly McCormick are in discussions to produce under their 87North banner, while Momoa is also negotiating to produce via his On the Roam banner.
Details about the project are scarce, but it’s being characterized as “The Raid set on a pirate ship.” For those unfamiliar, The Raid is a 2011 Indonesian action movie that highlighted intense fight scenes prominently, reminiscent of John Wick prior to its release. Currently, it remains unclear whether Momoa will have an acting role in the film or if his participation will be limited to production duties.
Leitch is presently directing the action-thriller How to Rob a Bank for Amazon MGM, while Momoa is set to start filming Legendary’s Street Fighter movie soon.
