NYC Weekend Highlights: M. Night Shyamalan, Bullet in the Head, Kill Bill, A Brighter Summer Day, and More

      NYC Weekend Watch is our weekly summary of repertory events.

      This week's edition of NYC Weekend Watch is brought to you by The Balconettes, which opens today at New York’s IFC Center, as well as at the Nuart in Los Angeles and TIFF Lightbox in Toronto.

      Film at Lincoln Center kicks off double-feature pairings of M. Night Shyamalan films along with carefully selected complementary films; Shinji Sōmai’s The Friends begins showing in a new restoration (check out our trailer premiere).

      IFC Center presents films by John Woo and Ching Siu-tung in Hong Kong Cinema Classics; The Lovers on the Bridge and Diva are screened in new restorations while In the Mood for Love and its 2001 version continue their run; late screenings include My Neighbor Totoro, On-Gaku: Our Sound, Rosemary’s Baby, and Pet Sematary.

      Film Forum continues with Women In Action, featuring Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 on 35mm.

      Brooklyn Academy of Music showcases films by Éric Rohmer, Edward Yang, Ingmar Bergman, among others, in Summers of Change.

      Museum of Modern Art carries on with a retrospective of Michael Caine.

      Anthology Film Archives screens films by Jean Cocteau in Essential Cinema; a retrospective of Lukas Marxt is currently in progress.

      Museum of the Moving Image features JFK in a series focused on Eddington inspirations; North By Northwest and 2001 are shown in 70mm as part of a new series.

      Nitehawk Cinema will screen To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar early on Saturday and Sunday.

      Metrograph has Days of Heaven, Pauline at the Beach, Come Drink with Me, The Grandmaster, and Apocalypse Now: Redux playing on 35mm; Nothing But Light, High Voltage, Class Rules, Topographies of Absence, Come as You Are, and In ‘Scope and Color are also continuing.
